Thermal resistance temperature sensor PT100, PT1000, PT200 difference

A Resistance Temperature Detector (RTD) is a type of sensor that uses the properties of metal resistance to measure temperature. Its core material is usually platinum (Pt), because platinum has the advantages of high stability, good linearity, corrosion resistance and so on. PT100, PT1000 and PT200 are three common platinum thermal resistance temperature sensors, and their differences are mainly reflected in the resistance value at 0°C, temperature coefficient, accuracy, application industry and so on. Here's the breakdown:

1.PT100 thermal resistance temperature sensor

0°C Resistance: 100Ω

Temperature coefficient: 0.385Ω/°C

Accuracy:

High accuracy, usually between ±0.1°C and ±0.5°C.

It is divided into Class A (higher precision) and Class B (industrial grade).

Application Industry:

. Industrial process control: Temperature monitoring in chemical, oil, gas and other industries.

. Laboratory equipment: high precision temperature control experimental equipment.

. Food and pharmaceutical industry: temperature monitoring of sterilization, fermentation and other processes.

. HVAC (Heating Ventilation and Air Conditioning) : ambient temperature monitoring and control.

Features:

. Low resistance (100Ω) : susceptible to wire resistance, usually requires three or four wire connections to compensate for errors.

. Cost moderate: cheaper than PT1000, but more expensive than thermocouple.

Widely used: industry standard, strong compatibility.

2.PT1000 thermal resistance temperature sensor

0°C Resistance: 1000Ω

Temperature coefficient: 3.85Ω/°C

Accuracy:

High accuracy, comparable to PT100.

Due to the higher resistance value, the impact on the wire resistance is less, suitable for long-distance transmission.

Application Industry:

. Medical equipment: thermometers, ventilators and other devices require low power consumption and high precision.

. Automotive: battery temperature monitoring (e.g., electric vehicles) and engine temperature control.

. Consumer electronics: Smart home devices (such as thermostats) and wearables.

. Low power applications: Suitable for battery powered devices.

Features:

. High resistance (1000Ω) : The wire resistance has little influence, suitable for two-wire connection.

. Higher cost: Due to the larger amount of platinum, the price is higher than PT100.

. High sensitivity: greater resistance change, suitable for small temperature change detection.

3.PT200 thermal resistance temperature sensor

0°C Resistance: 200Ω

Temperature coefficient: 0.77Ω/°C

Accuracy:

Medium precision, suitable for general industrial applications.

Sensitivity is between PT100 and PT1000.

Application Industry:

. Industrial automation: Temperature measurement scenarios requiring moderate accuracy.

. Home appliance industry: temperature control of refrigerators, ovens and other home appliances.

. HVAC : Ambient temperature monitoring, but not as widely used as PT100.

Features:

. Medium resistance (200Ω) : wire resistance has less influence, suitable for three-wire connection.

. Cost is moderate: the price is between PT100 and PT1000.

. Fewer applications: the market share is low, mainly used in specific scenarios.

Selection suggestion

PT100: Ideal for high-precision, industry-standard applications, especially where long-term stability and broad compatibility are required.

PT1000: Suitable for low-power, high-sensitivity applications such as medical devices and battery-powered devices.

PT200: Suitable for medium-precision, cost-sensitive applications such as home appliances and general industrial controls.

Selecting the right sensor for your specific needs can optimize system performance and reduce costs.
